Test and durability

ChromoGenics succeeds in ISO 18543:2021 test with ConverLight® Dynamic

ChromoGenics has successfully passed the important ISO 18543:2021 test. The company’s product, ConverLight® Dynamic, demonstrated outstanding durability in the challenging aging test. The ISO 18543 test is designed to assess electrochromic glass in buildings by subjecting them to high UV intensity, high temperature, and frequent switching between transparent and dark states. After 5000 hours of continuous use and 30,000 cycles, ConverLight® Dynamic passed the test, equivalent to over 20 years of normal use. The test was conducted by RISE as an independent third party from July 2022 to March 2023. The positive result confirms the durability and quality of ChromoGenics’ products. The company sees this as an important technical milestone and a step towards collaborating with high-quality companies in the glass industry.

ChromoGenics continuously performs several thorough tests in order to ensure product quality and sustainability. This means that our products provide full warranties for long-term customer satisfaction. Tests are being performed within the following areas:

Light and temperature
To determine optics and temperature properties, the spectral properties are measured to calculate the optics and temperature data of the different glass configurations.

Dynamic function
The test matrix used to evaluate the dynamic (electrochromic) function is based on internally developed tests and international test standards (ISO standards). Internal tests are accelerated tests developed to show at least 20 years of service life. The internal tests have been developed in consultation with experts in lifetime tests for electrochemical systems.

Mechanical strength and durability
The electrochromic glass is tested according to international standards for laminated safety and security glass. Our dynamic glass has been tested according to EN ISO 356 and fulfills the requirements for class P4A. The tests have been performed by RISE-SP.

Sound
The sound reducing properties have been tested externally at RISE-SP.

ChromoGenics works in accordance with ISO 9001 (quality management system) and ISO 14001 (environmental management system). The products are handled and approved according to Byggvarubedömningen.

The environmental impact of the product is secured in EPD (Environment product declaration). Destruction of the product is certified in cooperation with Swede Glass United.

TESTS ON ELECTROCHROMIC GLASS

Field tests in Morocco

The field tests conducted by ChromoGenics in Morocco have now been successfully completed after 4 years. The field tests focused on durability, with the ConverLight® Dynamic 65 & 75 products being naturally exposed to high levels of sunlight and heat year-round. The products were installed at angles of 90, 45, and 5 degrees to encompass the most common applications. The glass panels transitioned between dark and clear states through timed automation. The electrochromic glasses were regularly inspected, and light measurements were taken weekly. The tests will be repeated using materials manufactured by ChromoGenics’ own sputter process.

ChromoGenics develops products with the environment and sustainability in mind throughout the entire process. Energy and sustainability go hand in hand. Therefore, a lower energy use also means a reduced environmental footprint. You can achieve energy savings of around 30-40% and decrease the building’s CO2 emissions by using our products.
